Before becoming a full-time private tutor in 2013, I gained a PhD in Physics from Warwick University, and worked in experimental physics research at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory’s neutron source near Oxford (1990 – 1995).
I then went to Zimbabwe in 1996 as part of Voluntary Service Overseas, where I taught maths and physics. This journey led to me qualifying as a science teacher in 2000. Having caught the travel bug, I combined this with my teaching and have taught at various international schools in the Middle East, Africa and Europe.
Along the way, I’ve been exposed to many different cultures, economic backgrounds and personalities. I believe this enables me to adapt my teaching style to individual students, with impressive results.
- I’ve made it possible for failing students to pass their GCSEs
- I’ve helped students gain entrance to St Paul’s School, CLC, Harrow, LSE and Cambridge University
- I’ve inspired many other students to achieve higher than expected grades., including low-achieving studentsi
- I’ve helped students pass entrance exams. For example the St Paul’s 13+ maths exam.
On a more personal note, I’ve sponsored a student through high school and university in Swaziland. I’m very proud to say that he graduated in 2019 with a BA in Accounting & Commerce.
I’m also a keen long-distance runner, and have completed 35 marathons and ultra-marathons in the UK and overseas.
